Chamaerops humilis
A compact, multi-trunk fan palm that brings instant oasis charm to courtyards and pool areas.
One of the most cold-hardy palms, hardy to about 10–15°F, thriving from low to high desert.

Low water use once established; among the most drought-tolerant palms, but water deeply to establish.
Care Guide
Water deeply every 2-3 weeks in summer once established. More drought tolerant than most palms.
Remove dead or brown fronds as needed.
Apply a balanced palm fertilizer once in spring.
Generally pest-free. Occasionally susceptible to palm aphids.
Evergreen year-round. Growth slows in winter.
Soil, Feeding & Propagation
Widely adaptable, well-draining sandy or decomposed-granite soil; tolerates caliche and alkaline pH 7.5–8.5
Needs well-drained soil.

Grown from seed or by removing rooted basal offsets (suckers)

Placement Tips
- •Compact multi-trunk clump about 10 ft wide, ideal for courtyards, entries, and small oasis beds.
- •Petiole bases carry stiff spines, so keep the clump 4–6 ft off walkways and pool decks.
- •Slow-growing and cold-hardy; excellent in large containers or as a low evergreen accent.
- •Full sun deepens color, though it also tolerates part shade.
