Mexican Blue Palm

A showstopping palm with silvery-blue fan fronds and spectacular cascading cream flower garlands in summer.
One of the most cold-hardy blue palms, hardy to about 15-18°F, suited to low and mid desert.

Low water use once established; keep soil well-drained and avoid soggy conditions.
Care Guide
Deep-soak every 2-3 weeks in summer and monthly in winter once established; drought tolerant for a palm.
Remove only fully browned fronds and retain the blue crown; wear gloves for the spiny leaf bases and avoid over-trimming.
Apply a palm fertilizer with micronutrients (magnesium and manganese) two to three times spring through summer to prevent deficiency.
Generally pest-free; watch for palm scale.

Sharply draining sandy, gravelly, or decomposed-granite soil; tolerates caliche and alkaline pH, but never soggy ground

Placement Tips
- •Slow-growing to about 25 ft; use as a bold solitary focal point where its silver-blue crown reads against a dark wall or open sky.
- •Petioles are armed with spines, so keep the trunk 6-8 ft back from walkways, pools, and seating.
- •Requires excellent drainage; avoid low spots that stay wet.
- •Full sun brings out the strongest blue color.
